Personalization of ads

If ad personalization is turned on, Google will use your data to tailor ads to your needs.

If ad personalization is turned off, Google will not collect or use information about you to create an advertising profile or personalize the ads you see. The ads will show, but they won’t be tailored to your needs. They may be related to the topic of the website or app you are viewing, your current search terms, or your general location, but not to your interests or search or browsing history. Your data may still be used for the other purposes listed above, such as measuring advertising effectiveness and protecting against fraud or abuse.

When you use a website or app that uses Google services, you may be asked whether you want to see personalized ads served by various companies, including Google. Regardless of the option you choose, Google won’t personalize ads if you have the ad personalization setting turned off or if the personalized ads feature doesn’t apply to your account.

You can view and control the information on the basis of which we select ads for you in your ad settings.

How you can control the information Google collects on these sites and apps.

Here are some ways to control the information your device sends when you visit websites or use apps that use Google services:

  • Ad settings help you control the ads you see on Google services (such as Google Search or YouTube) or on non-Google sites and apps that use Google advertising services. Thanks to them, you can also learn how ads are selected for a specific user, opt out of ad personalization or block specific advertisers.
  • If you’re signed in to your Google Account, depending on your account settings, you can view and control the data that’s created when you use Google services on your My Activity page. For example, this may include information collected from the websites you visit and the applications you use. You can view them by date or topic, and delete all or part of your activity.
  • Many websites and applications use Google Analytics so that their owners can understand user preferences. To block Analytics in your browser, you can install a Google Analytics blocking browser add-on. Learn more about Google Analytics and privacy.
  • Incognito mode in Chrome allows you to browse the web without saving website and file data in your browser or account history (unless you sign in). Cookies are deleted when you close all incognito windows and tabs, and your bookmarks and settings are stored until you delete them. Learn more about cookies.
  • Many browsers, including Chrome, allow you to block third-party cookies. You can also delete existing cookies from your browser. Learn more about managing cookies in Chrome.
